Waterbury duo leads Post’s comeback win over Pace

D.J. Jarrett and Tyshon Rogers made it a habit of terrorizing opposing defenses while playing for Kennedy and Crosby in the NVL. Now they’re doing it to Post University opponents at the nearby Drubner Center.

Jarrett scored 25 points off of the bench on Dec. 30 when Post rallied for an 88-80 home victory over Pace University. Jarrett’s performance caught the attention of the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference, which named him to the men’s basketball honor roll. Rogers scored 16 points, including 10 in the second half.

The Eagles went on a 32-16 run in the second half to claim a two-point lead with 3:43 to play in the game. Jarrett had 14 points during that run, including seven straight, and his 3-pointer put Post ahead 75-73. Six of Jarrett’s 14 points during that run came on 3-pointers.

Pace tied the game at 75-75, but Post closed with a 13-5 run. Six straight points from Rogers on two foul shots, a jumper and a drive to the bucket gave the Eagles an 83-77 lead with just over 30 seconds remaining. Post hung on and claimed the much-needed win to improve to 3-9 overall.

Jarrett played 22 minutes and shot 9-for-15 from the floor, including 4-for-8 from three-point range. He was 3-for-4 on foul shots, grabbed four rebounds and blocked a shot.

Rogers started, played 24 minutes and shot 7-for-11 from the floor. He made both of his free throw attempts, pulled in six rebounds, dished out three assists, and grabbed three steals.
