Ramirez leads strong effort by the host Rams at Greater Bristol invite

Host school Bristol Central had a solid day in less than ideal conditions on Saturday at the fourth Greater Bristol Invitational track and field meet.

The best day belonged to Jose Ramirez. Ramirez won the 800m with a time of 2:05.09, and he was also part of the winning 4x400m relay (3:35.58). Ramirez ran the opening leg and was followed by Ramon Ambert, Galen Hickey and David Bowes. Ramirez ran the final leg of the second place 4x800m relay (8:35.74), following the lead of Mark Petrosky, Devin Flores and Austin Freve.

Hickey was also a winner in the triple jump at 42’5.5″. Teammate Hunter Peterson was second at 41’1″. Peterson also finished second in the high jump, where he tied the meet record at 6′. Peterson was tied with the winner, Yazeed Amadou of Manchester, but lost because he had more missed heights. Peterson finished third in the long jump at 21’6.5″.

Ambert finished third in the 400m with a time of 52.28 seconds. Petrosky was fifth in the 3200m with a time of 9:58.33 while Jakob Salinas took fifth in the javelin with a throw of 142’8″. Freve finished sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:12.11.

For the girls, the 4x400m relay of Mia Hinton, Emma Stone, Gabriella Calfe and Adalia Malick took second place with a time of 4:25.61. Kaiya Alexander finished fourth in the shot put at 32’1.5″. Malick took fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.54. Abigail Calfe claimed fifth in the long jump (14’10”) and sixth in the triple jump (31’2.25″).

The Rams also had two sixth place finishes in relays. The 4x100m relay (56.49) was made up of Julia Simpson, Hannah Aldieri, Morgan Labbe and Sofia Veronesi. The 4x800m relay (11:12.29) was comprised of Natalia Popielarz, Salvatrice Bosco, Marisa Heller and Alexa Furniss.
