Former Holy Cross and Putnam Science Academy standout Ta’Quan Zimmerman will have a new home when the National Basketball League of Canada season begins in November.
Zimmerman, 26, signed with the Cape Breton Highlanders after earning Sixth Man of the Year honors last season with the Halifax Hurricanes. Cape Breton plays in Sydney, about a 50-minute flight from Halifax in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia.
“I just want to thank God for all my abilities and talent that I have and allowing me to do what I love to do for a living!” Zimmerman wrote in a Facebook post on Sept. 14. “So with that being said, I would like to announce that I signed a one year deal with the Cape Breton Highlanders in the National Basketball League of Canada!!! God is Good … Special Thanks to my friends, family and acquaintances for all the support and guidance during this process!!! #Year5 #Blessed #FearTheCape #SixthManOfTheYear”
Zimmerman played for Halifax for two seasons, with the last one bringing the Sixth Man of the Year accolades. He became only the second player in NBLC history to garner 100 3-pointers, 100 rebounds and 100 assists off the bench in a single season, according to a press release on the league website. In 2017-2018, Zimmerman averaged 11 points, three assists and three rebounds in 27 minutes per game off the bench. He shot 40 percent from three-point range and is second in the league in made 3-pointers over the past two seasons.
