Heron declares for NBA Draft, hasn’t signed with an agent yet (Pearl comments added)

Mustapha Heron has dreamed of playing in the NBA.
On Wednesday, he took a step toward making his dream come true when he declared for the 2018 NBA Draft. Heron has not yet hired an agent, though he plans on doing so in the future. A college basketball player does not lose his amateur eligibility until he signs with an agent. Heron could come back to Auburn if he does not like what he hears about his draft status.
Here’s what the former Sacred Heart superstar had to say on Twitter:

“First off, I would like to thank the man upstairs for making all of this possible. I have always dreamed of playing basketball at the highest level and now He is making that a reality for me. I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, all the Auburn fans and Auburn University for a wonderful two years. Playing on the plains was an experience like no other and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! With that being said, after discussing with my family, I have decided to forgo my junior season at Auburn and enter my name in the 2018 NBA Draft with intent to sign an agent. Again I would like to thank everybody who supported me throughout this process and I will forever be a Tiger!!! WAR EAGLE”

Heron scored 1,011 points in his two seasons at Auburn and shot 44.2 percent from the field, 37.2 from three-point range. Heron put up a clarification on Twitter a little after announcing his decision.

“Just want to reiterate I have not hired an agent yet but I do plan on it in the future”

The Tigers were co-SEC regular season champions and the top seed in the conference tournament in 2017-18. Auburn played in the NCAA Tournament and won a game before losing in the second round. Head coach Bruce Pearl posted this on Twitter:

“We’re very excited for Mustapha as he has decided to test the NBA Draft waters. He is the first 5-star signee in program history and helped change the culture here at Auburn. We will support him in every way we can and wish him nothing but the best! War Eagle!”
