Bristol Eastern wrestling, defending champion in Class L, didn’t take it easy opening the season on Wednesday.
The Lancers hosted the Southington Blue Knights, a tough CCC foe, and came away with a hard-earned 43-22 victory. The dual meet was tied at 22, but Eastern won the last four matches to take the 21-point win. Ethan Mathieu won by decision at 220 pounds, then the Lancers swept the next three bouts.
Eastern is at the CJ McCormick Tournament in Berlin on Saturday.
Bristol Central began its season with a 48-28 loss to Farmington at home. Thomaston/Litchfield/Holy Cross hosted Gilbert in its opener, but no score has been reported.
