It was a great day for local runners Saturday at the 34th Wickham Park Cross Country Invitational in Manchester.
Kennedy senior Kyle Hotchkiss won the boys varsity seeded race, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 16:34, or 5:21 per mile. Teammate Alexander Brites, a sophomore, took 11th.
In terms of team competition, the seeded race belonged to Bristol Central. The Rams claimed first place with 169 points, two better than the 171 from Northwestern Regional. Central claimed five team places between 13th and 55th, including those two spots. Sophomore Mark Petrosky was 13th for his team (17th overall). Senior Matt Roy was 27th (32nd overall), followed by junior Devin Flores in 32nd (37th overall). Junior Pacifico Flores finished 42nd (48th overall) while sophomore Ben Stafford was 55th (61st overall).
Team and overall places are different because there are non-team competitors. For example, Hotchkiss and Brites were two of just four Kennedy runners. Five finishers are needed to make the team results.
In the girls unseeded race, Wolcott sophomore was 14th overall. Bristol Eastern freshman Avery Braccia was 31st overall. St. Paul sophomore Kailyn Bielecki took 46th overall.
In the boys junior varsity #1 race, Central runners Nate Deangelo and Leo Kavanaugh claimed first and third overall. Deangelo, a freshman, crossed the finish line in 18:09. Kavanaugh, a sophomore, was third in 18:47. The Rams finished fourth as a team.
In the boys freshman race, Wolcott’s Nick Bendsten was 10th.
