There were plenty of local standouts during Thursday’s Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League action.
Any conversation must begin with Matt Wahl of Blasius Chevrolet. Wahl’s soft liner over third base scored Jay LaFontain for a 2-1 walkoff victory over the Southington 66ers at Hotchkiss Field in Prospect.
Wahl wasn’t the only hero for Blasius. Gary Novakowski went all seven innings on the mound, struck out six, and claimed the victory. A big snag by Jeff Fonti kept a possible go-ahead run from scoring in the top of the sixth inning. That runner was on third base.
Blasius, tied with Naugatuck for second place, plays twice this weekend. They host the Valley Thunder at Hotchkiss Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. On Sunday, Blasius will face the Burlington Hunters at 10 a.m.
Murphy, Vaccarelli trade RBI in game: Devin Murphy and Mike Vaccarelli helped their respective offenses in a game between the Naugatuck Dogs and Wolcott Scrappers.
Murphy put the first run on the board with a solo homer in the top of the second inning. Vaccarelli responded with a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Naugatuck claimed victory when it scored three times in the top of the eighth inning. For Wolcott, Justin Koutros pitched a complete game.
Mancini the Man: As mentioned Thursday, Matt Mancini had three hits and four RBI for the Bethlehem Plowboys in a 10-1 smacking of the Litchfield Cowboys.
