CCSU baseball recently announced its newcomers for the 2018 season, and two locals were among them.
One is left-handed pitcher Shea Dooley, a Wolcott native who just completed his second season with UConn-Avery Point. Dooley is a graduate of Kaynor Tech. Veteran Blue Devil head coach Charlie Hickey said this about Dooley:
“Shea is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound left-hander with a great arm and has the ability to throw the curveball and changeup for strikes,” Hickey said in a release on the team’s website. “We look forward to him being a part of our rotation for the next two years.”
While Dooley will be a junior, Sacred Heart graduate Peyton Stephens will be just a freshman. Still, Hickey has some expectations for Stephens, one of the leaders of a solid Hearts team in 2017.
“Peyton has outstanding athletic ability,” Hickey said. “He is a right-handed hitter who has shown the ability to hit for power and average. His positive attitude will help in his success at this level. Peyton is a two-way player that will see time in the outfield and on the mound.”
