Lacrosse dreams become reality at Wolcott High School this week

Supporters of lacrosse in Wolcott will see their dreams come true in the first full week of spring high school sports action.
The first matches at the high school level take place on back-to-back evenings. The Wolcott girls will be the first to play as they take on Jonathan Law of Milford on the turf of Monroe Field. The match is scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m.
The Wolcott boys play their first varsity match on Tuesday when they host Middletown at 5 p.m. at Monroe Field.
The funding for the boys and girls lacrosse programs was approved in the 2016-17 Wolcott budget. There was plenty of support for lacrosse at a public hearing held on May 17 in the Council Chambers at Wolcott Town Hall.
Justin Darley, then a junior at Wolcott, went to the hearing and spoke in favor of adding lacrosse. He said there was a club team that was established, but added that a high school team would add opportunities to play in college.
Now Darley, a senior, and his fellow lacrosse players at Wolcott, boys and girls, will get the opportunity to play the sport they love at the varsity level.
The fun starts on Monday, then continues Tuesday.
