NEW ENGLAND WRESTLING: Barrett takes third, Trelli places fourth

The best of the best in high school wrestling gathered at the Providence Career and Technical Academy in Providence, R.I., this weekend for the New England championship meet.
Two top four wrestlers hailed from Bristol, Eastern senior Mikey Barrett and Central junior Chris Trelli. Barrett finished third at 160 pounds while Trelli came in fourth at 106.
Here’s the path each wrestler took:


Round of 32: Barrett won a 3-1 decision over Christopher Munnell of Concord, N.H.
Round of 16: Barrett lost a 7-3 decision to Ahmad Sharif of Putnam, Mass.
Consolation Round of 16: Bye
Consolation Round of 8 #1: Barrett won a 4-2 decision over Lucas Peckham of Ponganset, R.I.
Consolation Round of 8 #2: Barrett won a 6-4 decision over Sam Anderson of Sanford, Maine
Consi-Quarters: Barrett won a 5-1 decision over Tyler Sharron of Newport, N.H.
Consi-Semis: Barrett won a 6-2 decision over Sharif
3rd Place Bout: Barrett won a 7-1 decision over Dawson Stevens of Oxford Hills, Maine


Round of 32: Trelli won a 12-2 major decision over Brian Garry of Holliston, Mass.
Round of 16: Trell pinned Sam Wagner of Concord, N.H., in 4:44
Quarterfinals: Trelli lost a 7-1 decision to Cody Craig of Skowhegan, Maine
Consolation Round of 8 #2: Trelli won a 8-2 decision of Benjamin Smart of Ridgefield, Conn.
Consi-Quarters: Trelli won a 13-5 major decision over Tyler Glenn of Central Catholic, Mass.
Consi-Semis: Trelli won a 3-1 decision over Hunter Adrian of Melrose, Mass.
3rd Place Bout: Trelli lost a 7-2 decision to Andrew Fallon of LaSalle, R.I.
