The Wolcott boys tennis team has yet to lose this season.
Not only are the Eagles undefeated (10-0), they have yet to drop more than one match in any of those 10 contests. Wolcott has won 8-1, 9-0, 9-0, 8-1, 9-0, 9-0, 8-1, 8-1, 8-1 and 9-0.
The Eagles, led by Steve Jasulavic, have won the last two NVL championships, and they appear to be well on their way to a third. Wolcott has just three seniors on its CIAC roster: Jason Caggiano, Reyhum Chowdhury and Ryan Collins. That’s not a pleasant thought for Eagle opponents.
In its biggest challenge of the season, Wolcott smacked previously undefeated Torrington 8-1 on April 27 at Wolcott High School.
The Eagles didn’t lose in the regular season last year on the way to the title, with the closest win being 5-4 at Holy Cross. The same goes for the 2014 regular season, with a 5-4 win at Naugatuck being the closest call.
As a matter of fact, Wolcott hasn’t lost a regular season team match since May 17, 2013, when it fell 7-2 at Woodland. That was the final match of the 2013 regular season. Two regular seasons have passed without a loss by the Eagles.
Woodland used to rule NVL boys tennis. Now it’s Wolcott’s turn, and who knows when this program will lose a regular season team match.
