On a day where the weather forecast wasn’t promising, Sacred Heart and St. Paul kept their Class S first round girls tennis tournament matchup on as planned.
The NVL foes battled it out on Monday afternoon at Fulton Park, and the visiting Falcons pulled out a 4-3 win over the Hearts. It’s the second straight victory for St. Paul in this year’s Class S tournament. The Falcons took down Immaculate on Saturday at Bristol’s Peck Park in a qualifying round matchup.
St. Paul faces the winner of No. 2 Valley Regional and No. 15 Westbrook tomorrow at 3:30 in the quarterfinal round. Ever since the 4-3 NVL quarterfinal setback to Watertown, St. Paul has regained momentum and is looking to ride it into the semifinals of Class S.
Sacred Heart finished a strong season with a record of 15-4. It was the last match for seniors Bridget Bergin, Aimee Duprey, Ireland Gilmore, Mary Gryniuk, Madison Laferriere, Brianna Montambault, Hannah Riseman and Jessica Spillane.
