The No. 3 St. Paul girls basketball team was hoping for one final Run to the Sun. Many girls on this team had been to state final two years ago, where they lost to Thomaston. Joe Mone’s Falcons wanted another shot at the title, but it wasn’t meant to be.
For the second straight year, No. 14 Immaculate played the role of spoiler. This time, it was by a score of 49-40 on Thursday night in Class M’s second round at St. Paul. Lizzy Cretella led the Falcons in her final game with 19 points, five rebounds, five steals and one block, according to a story from Adam Baker of the Waterbury Republican-American. Brigid Johndrow, who is slated to be back, had nine points, five rebounds, four steals and one assist. Amelia Sanchez, also slated to be back next year, tallied seven rebounds. Johndrow and Sanchez are juniors who will be looked upon to lead St. Paul next year.
Senior Lizzy Ferraro had five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in her final game.
It was the final St. Paul game for seniors Cretella, Ferraro, Emily Sklenka, Corinne Johndrow, Stephanie Speaker and Lauren Palmer. It was also the last game as a Falcon for Jillian Kilmer, who was lost early in the season to an ACL injury.
St. Paul finished with an overall record of 21-3.
