Holy Cross girls stand alone in state tournament

In CIAC girls basketball, there is only one team left, and that team is Holy Cross.
The No. 4 Crusaders beat No. 20 59-44 in Class M’s second round Thursday night, despite not playing well according to senior standout RaShana Siders, who was quoted in the Waterbury Republican-American. Siders had 21 points while Caitlin Cipriano added 11. There were many other contributions as well, according to the story from Rick Wilson. Kaitlyn Grimshaw had nine rebounds, Meah Austin scored seven points and pulled down six rebounds, and Aiyana Ward tallied seven points. And oh yeah, reserve Andrea Pettinico hit a big 3-pointer. Read more about that, and the game itself, in Rick’s story here.
Next up for Holy Cross is No. 5 East Hampton, a 33-32 winner over No. 12 Watertown. That Class M quarterfinal is next Monday at Holy Cross at 5:30 The No. 5 Holy Cross boys follow with their Class S first round game against No. 28 Wamogo at 7:30.
East Hampton comes from a rugged Shoreline Conference that features solid teams like Cromwell and Morgan, just to name a couple. It will be a challenge, but Holy Cross will be ready to go.
