Bristol Eastern football gets its first win

Bristol Eastern football picked up its first win of the season
on Friday night by defeating Newington 40-34 at Bristol Eastern High
School.

The Lancers have had their struggles, but they were
able to come out on top on a night where the newly completed press box
was opened up. Josh Sampson had a huge night and accounted for three of
Eastern’s scores. Sampson ran for two scores and threw for another,
according to results reported to the Hartford Courant. Edgar Hernandez
had a touchdown run and touchdown catch while Ben Ferraro added a
receiving score from Darieyn Tate.

The Lancers trailed by a
point after one quarter, then outscored the visiting Indians 16-7 to
take a 22-14 halftime lead. In the fourth quarter, Sampson’s last score
of the night put Eastern ahead 40-27. The Lancers were able to hold off
the Indians from there and take the victory.
Zac Thompson and Jaden Laprise put together strong efforts for Eastern, which improved to 1-5 with the win.
The Lancers look to make it two wins in a row this coming Friday at home against South Windsor. The kickoff for that game is set for 7 p.m. It’s the last game of the season for Eastern at Bristol Eastern High School. The Lancers are the home team on Thanksgiving morning in the Battle for the Bell against Bristol Central, but that game is at Muzzy Field.
