Wolcott baseball in position to clinch state tournament berth

Wolcott baseball (7-5) is one win away from another state tournament berth.
The defending NVL champion Eagles had a chance to clinch that berth on Monday at home against Wilby, but the game was rained out, as were many in the area.
Instead, Tary Scott’s Wolcott squad will try to clinch tomorrow against one of the NVL’s best when it plays St. Paul at 3:45 p.m. in Bristol. The Falcons are 11-2 on the season, but are coming off of a loss at resurgent Holy Cross on Friday. St. Paul is receiving votes in the latest New Haven Register/GameTimeCT poll.
Wolcott put itself in position to clinch a tournament berth by mounting a furious rally to beat Woodland 8-5 in Beacon Falls last Friday. The Eagles scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to grab an 8-5 lead and held on for the win. Junior Ray Bartoli continued his torrid hitting with two doubles and two RBI. Earlier in the week, Bartoli homered twice in a blowout win over Kennedy.
Bartoli had a key two-run double in the seventh inning of the Woodland game. Senior Isaiah Negretti-Flannery had a two-run single in the seventh. Sophomore Nick Longo had a hit and two RBI.
