One-run games a staple of Bristol Central baseball season to date

Bristol Central baseball hasn’t had a lack of drama in its 2019 season.

Thursday’s 8-7 walk-off loss at Windsor marked the eighth time the Rams have been involved in a one-run game. Central fell to 6-9 with the loss, still looking for two more wins and automatic Class L state tournament qualification.

The Rams and Warriors were tied 3-3 entering the top of the seventh inning at Windsor High School. Central used a bases loaded walk, a two-run double by JT Clark, and a wild pitch to take a 7-3 lead. Windsor responded with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal the 8-7 win.

The Rams are 2-6 in one-run games this season. Central once played five straight one-run games between April 24 and May 2. The Rams lost the first three, then beat Bristol Eastern 3-2 on May 1 and Enfield 2-1 on May 2. In the Enfield game, Austin Brown’s line-drive single over the third baseman’s head gave Central a walk-off win.

The Rams are done for this week, and it was a rough one with four losses in four games. Central returns to action next Monday against Plainville at Muzzy Field at 3:45 p.m. It’s the first of four straight games at Muzzy, fifth straight home games to close out the regular season. The Rams are hoping a little home cooking will get them into the state tournament.

Thank you to Richard Brown for passing the game updates along this season.
