The Southington 66ers and Tribury Twisters found themselves in must-win situations in their Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League regular season finales on Saturday.
Both teams needed to win to claim a playoff berth, and both delivered. Southington rolled past the Valley Thunder 11-1 at Tyrrell Middle School, and Tribury knocked off the East Mountain Cougars 15-9 at Bucks Hill Park. The 66ers finished the regular season at 8-10 and the Twisters ended up 7-11.
Valley needed to beat Southington to get in, but the 66er bats roared. Adam Wilson had three hits, a sacrifice fly and four RBI to lead Southington. Former St. Paul standout Tim Jalbert connected for two hits, scored three times and drove in a run, and fellow Falcon Matt Santovasi added a two-run single. Patrick Raymond had an RBI single and two runs scored, and Joe Daigle had a hit, two walks and two runs scored. Joe Rivera struck out eight and gave up a single run on two hits to pick up the win. Sean Rivera and Raymond each pitched a scoreless inning.
The Terryville Black Sox wrapped up their first Tri-State regular season title with a 13-0 win over the Bristol Greeners at Fisher Middle School. Blasius Chevrolet finished up with a 4-1 win over the Canton Crushers, and the Wolcott Scrappers lost a 12-11 slugfest to the Litchfield Cowboys. The Naugatuck Dogs played twice on Saturday and won twice, 9-5 over the Bethlehem Plowboys and 17-3 over the Amenia Monarchs.
Here are the records for the 12 playoff teams: Terryville 15-3, Naugatuck 14-4, Tri-Town Trojans 14-4, Litchfield 13-5, Blasius 13-5, Wolcott 12-5, Bristol 11-7, Bethlehem 10-8, Amenia 9-9, Southington 8-10, Winsted Whalers 8-10, Tribury Twisters 7-11.
