The Wilby football team was the lone local outfit in action on Saturday, and it had a tough day in a 35-0 loss to NVL newcomer Gilbert-Northwestern-Housatonic at Van Why Field in Winsted.
The Wildcats (1-2) had trouble getting their vaunted running game going against the Yellowjackets and were held to exactly 100 yards rushing on 31 attempts, according to the report from Peter Wallace of GameTimeCT. Wilby had just 61 yards passing, and two attempts were intercepted, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
