WEEK 8 FOOTBALL: Bristol Eastern records third shutout of season in RHAM rout

When the Bristol Eastern football team wins recently, it seems to pitch a shutout.

The Lancers improved to 5-2 on the season Saturday with a 34-0 victory over RHAM in Hebron. It was the third straight shutout for the Eastern defense, which has allowed only 42 points all season. The Lancers recovered a fumble and picked off a pass in the win.

Bristol Central, Holy Cross and Kennedy picked up Week 8 victories on Friday night. WCA joined Eastern in the winner’s circle on Saturday.

BRISTOL EASTERN 34, RHAM 0

Jaiden Fore ran for touchdowns of 7, 1 and 5 yards for the Lancers against the Raptors (3-4) in Hebron.

Gavin Damboise ran for a 22-yard touchdown and Kamden Laprise completed a 12-yard touchdown pass for Eastern. The Lancers compiled 335 yards of total offense (277 rush, 58 pass) on 56 plays while holding the Raptors to 131 (51 rush, 80 pass).

BRISTOL CENTRAL 35, WETHERSFIELD 12

Donovan Rodriguez pounded away for 204 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries to lead a near 400-yard effort on the ground by the Rams (2-5) against the Eagles (0-7).

Tristian Toussaint ran just five times, but accumulated 83 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Paulino added 27 yards and a score while Jayden Glasper chewed up 67 yards on 11 attempts. Central ran 52 times for 387 yards and all five touchdowns.

KENNEDY 28, WOLCOTT 6

Kennedy (3-4) picked up its third straight win after starting the season 0-4.

Travis Figueroa ran for touchdowns of 6 and 44 yards before unfortunately having to leave the game in the third quarter with a lower leg injury. Figueroa was taken off on a stretcher after he was given well-wishes by his teammates and players from Wolcott (1-6). It was a great moment of sportsmanship by the two teams. Julius Caban (4 yards) and Daniel Rodriguez (19) also ran for touchdowns. Jaydon Lopez ran for a two-point conversion and passed to Joe Fasano for another.

WCA 38, ST. PAUL 22

The Spartans (3-4) ran for 242 yards on 31 attempts, led by D’Vonte Lane, in their road win over the Falcons (1-6) at McPhee Field.

Lane scored touchdowns of 19, 25 and 38 yards for WCA, which built a 20-0 halftime lead. Rocco Zenick (3 yards) and Mekheem Ambursley (50) also rushed for touchdowns, and Dylan Rossi made a pair of PAT kicks.

HOLY CROSS 47, WILBY 0

Led by the passing of Drew Caouette, the Crusaders (5-2) made quick work of the Wildcats (0-7) at Municipal Stadium’s Ray Snyder Sr. Field.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES IN LOSSES

Crosby (3-4) battled back valiantly before falling to undefeated Oxford, 23-20, on Friday night in Oxford. Jeremiah Febus had a tremendous performance with 359 yards of total offense (208 passing, 151 rushing) and three touchdowns. He also had eight tackles, including two for loss. Teammate Jireh Rawlison caught eight passes for 112 yards and both Febus touchdowns, and on defense he had four tackles, including a sack for an 11-yard loss. Kalib Shaw recorded 12 tackles, including two for loss.

Wilcox/Kaynor dropped a Friday night game at undefeated Northwest United, 39-14, at Nonnewaug High School. Malik Sanchez-Colon rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries. He also accumulated 83 yards on three kickoff returns. Patrick Lachance ran for 59 yards on 12 attempts and added six tackles on defense. Lachance also blocked a field goal. Logan Stone scored a touchdown on offense and recorded nine tackles on defense.

Toby Chance and Michael McCormack hooked up for Wolcott’s lone touchdown against Kennedy on a 17-yard pass. Ben Bianchi kept Kennedy from a potential touchdown with a late first half interception.

Jason Mathews had a part in 16 of St. Paul’s 22 points against WCA. Mathews ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown and two-point conversion from Brady McManama. Mathews also ran for a two-point conversion.
