Eastern boys soccer bounces back from loss with convincing shutout win

The Bristol Eastern boys soccer team was looking to bounce back Monday afternoon at home against winless Hartford Public.The Lancers had dropped their previous game, 3-0, to Berlin at home last Thursday. Eastern more than took care of business Monday, dropping Hartford Public by a score of 5-0. The Lancers improved to 5-2 on the season. The Eastern losses are to Berlin and Lewis Mills (4-1 on the road on Sept. 15).Matthew Cabrera snuck inside the front right post for the first Lancer tally of the game. Late in the first half, Rocco Barbino scored to give Eastern a 2-0 lead going into the break.The second half was all Lancers. Liam Sanchez-Barreto buried a penalty kick in the back right corner for a 3-0 lead. From there, it was the Eddie Ansah show. After a teammate dribbled through nearly the entire Owl defense, Ansah finished it off with a right-footed quick shot into the front left corner. Ansah added his second goal, again with his right foot, off a bounce into the back right corner.Eastern, which had a three-game winning streak earlier in the season against Plainville, East Catholic and Platt, hopes to start another winning streak Thursday. The Lancers look for their second straight win on the road at E.O. Smith (2-6). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. After that, Eastern is on the road at Bell City rival Bristol Central (3-3) on Saturday at 5 p.m. A showdown with a good East Hartford side (4-1-3) looms next Tuesday at 6 p.m. at home.
