Kennedy boys fall to Naugatuck in NVL final

The Kennedy boys basketball team achieved a milestone Monday night when it beat Crosby in the semifinal round of the NVL tournament at Wilby High School’s Reggie O’Brien Gymnasium.

The victory clinched the first berth in the NVL tournament final for the Eagles. Second-seeded Kennedy earned the right to play top-seeded and undefeated Naugatuck, but the final didn’t go the way the Eagles would have liked. The Greyhounds ran away with a 58-42 victory and their second NVL title in the past three seasons.

Kennedy, which was in search of its first NVL championship since winning three straight from 1989-1991, fell to 19-4 on the season. Senior Dayven Zielinski led the Eagles with 17 points before fouling out. Senior Synciere Alves tallied eight points while senior Chauncey Hicks and junior Lennox Serrano added six points apiece. Sophomore Hikim Trueheart rounded out the scoring with five points.
