Bristol Central girls win rare Sunday matinee

The Bristol Central girls basketball team improved to .500 with a 42-28 home win over Lewis Mills in a rare Sunday matinee in the Charles C. Marsh Gymnasium.

The Rams are 9-9 with two games left in the regular season. Central plays the second game of a rare Sunday-Monday back-to-back on Monday night against Bristol Eastern in the Thomas M. Monahan Gymnasium at 6:45.

The Rams have clinched a Class L state tournament berth, but there is still more at stake. With one more win against either Eastern or Hartford Public on Wednesday at home, Central would finish at least .500 in a regular season for the first time since 2014-2015. The Rams went 11-9 in the regular season in 2014-2015 and made both the CCC and Class LL state tournaments.

The Rams are a young team with just two seniors, Lillian Sirois and Gabriella Watson. The CIAC roster also includes five juniors, five sophomores and two freshmen.

Note: Central won the first meeting against Eastern this season, 55-42, at home. It was first win for the Rams over the Lancers since 2004.
