Former Holy Cross High School football standouts Adam Razza and Joe Kalosky have played a role in keeping their teams near the top of the Commonwealth Coast Conference standings this fall.
On Saturday, Razza’s Western New England University squad clinched the CCC title with a resounding 35-0 win over Becker College. Razza, a junior, didn’t have a big game against Becker, totaling three catches for 23 yards and a lost fumble. He did, however, have a huge day against Kalosky’s Endicott College team on Nov. 2.
In a battle for first place that WNEU won, 42-31, Razza had six catches for a career-high 179 yards, including a game-long, 63-yard touchdown. He was named the school’s male athlete of the week for his performance. Razza’s touchdown put the Golden Bears ahead, 28-3, with 6:25 left until halftime.
Kalosky, a senior, scored the game’s next two touchdowns on one and two-yard runs. The second touchdown brought the Gulls to within 28-17 with 13:36 to play in the game. Kalosky threw touchdown passes of seven yards to Zach DeNike and 26 yards to Will Genaway in the fourth quarter, but WNEU was too far ahead by that point. Kalosky finished 34-of-53 passing for 288 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also had the two rushing touchdowns.
Kalosky was 23-of-31 passing for 223 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in a 49-7 Senior Day victory over the University of New England on Saturday. It was the fifth time this season that Kalosky has thrown for three or more touchdowns.
Kyren Petteway, Central Connecticut State University football
What a great couple weeks it has been for the former Waterbury Career Academy and Kingswood Oxford standout.
Petteway was named NEC Rookie of the Week for his efforts in a 27-13 CCSU win over Wagner College on Nov. 2. He pulled in four passes for 90 yards and a touchdown that day.
Petteway came up big again on Saturday, under much more pressure-packed circumstances against St. Francis University (Penn.). Petteway caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Aaron Winchester on the first possession of overtime. When Joe Zoppi hit the extra point, CCSU had a 38-31 lead. Petteway’s fourth career touchdown grab wound up being the game-winner in a 38-31 overtime victory. He finished with three receptions for 30 yards.
Dwayne Hunter-Parker, Framingham State University football
After reaching the MASCAC weekly honor roll for his special team efforts in a 16-6 win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Nov. 2, this Waterbury native helped the Rams clinched the conference title on Saturday.
Hunter-Parker, a senior who played for Hyde Leadership, totaled five tackles and three pass breakups in a 40-20 FSU win over Bridgewater State University. He also had one punt return for 22 yards, which set the Rams up near midfield. FSU wound up reaching the end zone on the ensuing drive and took a 13-6 lead with 3:25 left in the first quarter.
In the win over MMA, Hunter-Parker returned a blocked extra point for a defensive two-point conversion.
