The Wolcott Scrappers of the Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League have begun a new era.
Bob Warren, no stranger to local baseball, has taken over for Ryan Soucy as head coach. There are many younger faces on the Scrapper roster, though some veterans still remain.
Wolcott began the 2019 season with a 12-11 slugfest win over the Litchfield Cowboys at Litchfield High School on May 19. Tyler Smith pitched the first five innings, allowed six hits and struck out five on his way to the victory.
At the plate, Jesus Garcia had two doubles, a single and an RBI while Brandon Clark added two doubles with two RBI. Matt Warren doubled, singled and drove in a run while Alan Stinson tallied two singles and two RBI. Steve Urbanski chipped in two singles and an RBI.
After a break for Memorial Day, Wolcott returns to the field on Thursday against the Burlington Hunters at 5:45 p.m. at Lewis Mills. The Scrappers play their first home game on Sunday, June 2, at 6 p.m. at the BAW Complex.
