First Joe Lynch Memorial Inc. Golf Tournament on Aug. 5

It’s been about 13 months since the Wolcott and Holy Cross communities lost a tremendous man with the passing of Joseph Lynch. Family and friends are coming together on the links to help honor his memory this summer.

The first Joseph Lynch Memorial Inc. Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, at Western Hills Golf Course in Waterbury, according to the organization’s website. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Joe Lynch Memorial Inc. Board members of the 501(c)(e) are Mark Lynch (president); Ron Gambino (vice president); Jim Maisto (officer); Jason Pace (treasurer); and Christine Bonvisuto-Lynch (secretary).

You can register for the golf tournament by July 15 on the organization’s website, www.josephlynchmemorial.com. A 7:30 a.m. breakfast will be followed by an 8 a.m. shotgun start. For $125, you get golf, breakfast, lunch, a gift, and beer on the course. For $45, you get lunch at 1 p.m. There are $100 hole and $50 green sponsorships available. There will be a raffle, along with prizes awarded for hot ball (50/50), the longest drive, closest to the pin, hole in one, and the winning team.

There have already been Wolcott community members who have been recognized through Joe Lynch Memorial Inc. Michael Polzella was awarded the Wolcott Circle of Sports Joe Lynch Memorial Scholarship, and Anthony Ligi was the Thanksgiving Day Joe Lynch MVP award winner.

Zach Druan and Ron Cyr won the first Joseph Lynch Memorial Fantasy Football League, which was organized and run by Mike Druan. The league resulted in a $1,000 donation to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where Lynch received treatment for osteosarcoma.

Lynch passed away on April 5, 2018, at the age of 22. He left a lasting impact, and he will continue to do so through the first golf tournament in his memory.
