It was the same old story in the NVL boys basketball tournament final on Wednesday evening inside Wilby High School’s Reggie O’Brien Gymnasium.
Top-seeded Sacred Heart overwhelmed third-seeded Torrington for a 75-54 victory and a fifth straight NVL championship. Jamaal Waters led three Hearts in double figures with 23 points. Lorenzo Washington scored 14 points while Nate Tabor added 12 points. It was a team effort, though. Connor Tierney and Omar Rowe each had nine points, and Tierney added seven of Sacred Heart’s 13 blocks, according to Joe Palladino of The Zone.
Sacred Heart outscored Torrington 49-28 in the second and third quarters combined to turn a one-point game into a one-sided game. Tyreek Davis led the Red Raiders with 23 points, which tied him with Waters for the game high. Torrington put a strong challenge for most of the first half, but Sacred Heart just had too much.
Next up for both teams is the state tournament. Sacred Heart is in Division I while Torrington is in Division II.
