Holy Cross girls win eighth straight game

Holy Cross girls basketball started the season 0-3. That rough beginning is a distant memory for the Crusaders, who improved to 13-4 with a 44-36 road victory over Sacred Heart on Thursday night at Alumni Hall.

Again, Holy Cross started the season 0-3. Since that start, the Crusaders have won 13 out of 14. Holy Cross extended its current win steak to eight and paid Sacred Heart back for a loss suffered on Jan. 11 inside Tim McDonald Gymnasium at Holy Cross. That loss was the last one for the Crusaders.

Holy Cross and Sacred Heart were tied 8-8 after the first quarter, but the Crusaders pushed forward in the second quarter and built a 23-15 halftime lead. The Hearts fought back to 33-30 after three quarters, but the visitors were able to put the game away in the end.

Sacred Heart dropped to 16-3 with the loss. The loss snapped a 12-game winning streak by the Hearts. There’s a chance Holy Cross and Sacred Heart aren’t done playing each other this season. There’s the NVL Tournament starting this weekend, and both teams are in Class M at the state level.
