Sacred Heart boys maintain area’s best record

The high school boys basketball season is anywhere from nine to 13 games over, depending on which school you’re looking at. With that said, here’s where some of the local teams sit:

Sacred Heart (12-1) still hasn’t lost to a state opponent this season, and its NVL winning streak is getting ever closer to 100, which is just nuts. The Hearts have talented wings Nate Tabor, Jamaal Waters and Omar Rowe. Don’t forget about seven-footer Connor Tierney or defensive stopper Lorenzo Washington as well.

Wolcott (9-3) has lost two of its last three games after winning five straight contests. Granted, the two losses came on the road against Holy Cross (7-4) and the aforementioned Sacred Heart. The Eagles are still a good, senior-laden team, and they are a team to be aware of.

Crosby (9-3) takes another crack at Sacred Heart this Friday at 7 p.m. at The Palace. The game is part of the “Pack the Crosby Palace” game and dinner night being put on by the “Class of 1977” Alumni Committee. Check out Mike D’Avino, Michael Annenberg and others on Facebook for more details about a fun night.

Kaynor Tech (5-4) needs three wins, but has more than half of its season left to get those victories.

Holy Cross has been playing better of late and is one win away from state tournament qualification. Waterbury Career Academy (5-6), St. Paul (5-7) and Kennedy (4-6) all have work to do to earn a state tournament berth.

There’s still work to be done for the Mum City public schools. Bristol Central (4-6) and Bristol Eastern (4-7) each need four wins to get into the tournament.
