Sacred Heart girls claim city jamboree title

Sacred Heart girls basketball made its claim for the city’s best team by winning the jamboree on Saturday at Kennedy High School.

The Hearts, behind lightning quick guards Mikayla Mobley and Aamya Rivera, knocked off Holy Cross, Waterbury Career Academy and Crosby to pick up the title. Sacred Heart, which saw Treasure Coleman transfer in the offseason, was tested by the Crusaders, Spartans and Bulldogs, but managed to claim the crown.

There are some good players throughout the city. Crosby has senior Tiahna Pulliam, who is poised for another big run. The Bulldogs also got solid contributions from Glorines Rivera. WCA was led by Jonna Pierce and Taylor Dunn while Holy Cross was paced by Alyssa Hebb and Cayla Howard. Lauren Tuck and Ella Atkins led Chase Collegiate, which lost by a point to Crosby in one semifinal. Jonaria Garcia came up big in overtime for Wilby in a win over Kaynor TechKennedy didn’t have the best of days on Saturday, but figures to be a contender for a state tournament spot.
