Bristol Central football forfeits two wins due to use of ineligible player

There were no state tournament games for local teams on Friday, but there was a bit of news that had a ripple effect around the state.

Bristol Central football forfeited its wins over Capital Prep/Achievement First and Platt due to the use of an ineligible player, according to published reports. The player, who reportedly quit the soccer team and joined football around the midway point, participated in those games, which led to the forfeits. Bristol Central discovered the violation on Friday and reported it to the CIAC. Bristol Central’s forfeit makes Platt 7-2 instead of 6-3, which puts the Panthers ninth in the Class L playoff standings. Bristol Central goes from a tie for the division lead with Platt and Maloney, previously 3-1, to 2-2 and 3-5 overall.

The Bristol Central Football Booster Club Facebook page had a post earlier Friday advising football players and families of an important meeting at the school at 4:30 p.m. in the cafeteria with head coach Jeff Papazian, school principal Pete Wininger, and citywide athletic director Chris Cassin. People were advised to try to make the meeting if possible on short notice.

Bristol Central faces East Catholic on Saturday before playing in the Battle for the Bell against Bristol Eastern on Thanksgiving morning at Muzzy Field.
