Waterbury native Ta’Quan “Tootie” Zimmerman has had his fair share of success on the basketball court.
In his latest pro season, Zimmerman was named the National Basketball League of Canada’s Sixth Man of the Year.
There’s something else Zimmerman can add to his growing list of accolades: Hall of Famer.
Zimmerman will be enshrined in the Putnam Science Academy Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of its inaugural class on Saturday, Oct. 13.
“Truly a blessing and honor to be a part of something special like this,” Zimmerman wrote in a Facebook post.
The school formed the Hall of Fame in the spring of 2018, and a committee comprised of the PSA Athletic Director and volunteers was formed to go through nominations. Rundell Mauge (athlete), Enes Ulukaya (athlete), Dayshon “Scoochie” Smith (athlete), the 2013-2014 basketball team, Ronald Coderre (contributor), Tom Espinosa (coach) and Bryan Sailor (super fan) will also be inducted.
“The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize the school’s very best athletes who, over the course of their lives, embodied outstanding athletic tradition of excellence at Putnam Science Academy,” according to the school website.
Zimmerman suited up for PSA for a post-graduate season in 2010 and still holds the top scoring average in school history at 26.6 points per game. Zimmerman also collected eight rebounds, six assists and two steals per game. He shot 52 percent from the floor, 46 percent from three-point range. Zimmerman once rained down nine 3-pointers in a game, and that is a school record. He is ranked 10th all-time in assists and three-point field goals made.
The induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Connecticut National Golf Club, 136 Chase Road, in Putnam. Cocktail hour begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The induction ceremony begins at 7:15 p.m. To purchase tickets to the dinner, go to the induction dinner website, then click on “Buy Now” at the bottom of the screen.
