Naugatuck’s John Mariano is looking to draw interest from the Greater Waterbury area to his Naugatuck Basketball Association Hoops Camp, which will be held in two different sessions in July.

The camp is available to boys and girls aged 8-15 and will be held July 16-20 and July 23-27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at Hillside Intermediate School in Naugatuck. Elite shooting technique, creative dribbling skills, proper passing form, and defensive footwork are some of the things to be taught by Mariano and other counselors.

Mariano, a former college basketball player and coach, will have Anthony Mariano, Jodie Burns, Ta’Quan Zimmerman and Charles McClain as counselors. Anthony Mariano is a former 1,000-point scorer at Keene State College and Naugatuck High School. Burns, a former player at Post University and girls basketball coach at Naugatuck High, is an assistant coach for the Waterbury Career Academy boys basketball team. Zimmerman is a former Holy Cross High star and the current National Basketball League of Canada Sixth Man of the Year. McClain, a Naugatuck native, played for Chase Collegiate and is currently a member of the Keene State College men’s basketball team.

As for John Mariano, he played at Saint Anselm College, then coached at both Division I Brown University and Division II Saint Anselm.

A single session is $125, with both sessions going for $200. There is a sibling discount of $90 per camper, and the single day price is $30. You can contact John Mariano at jomariano@gmail.com, 203-592-5150, or on Instagram at @jmhoops203.
