LEGION NOTES: Waterbury Seniors lose to Cheshire; Bristol Juniors to host tourney game

The Waterbury Post 1 Senior American Legion baseball team couldn’t get past a powerful Cheshire contingent on Sunday and is now one loss away from elimination in the Southern Division “Regional Tournament”.

Waterbury fell 7-3 to Cheshire on Sunday at Cheshire High School and will need to beat Wilton again on Tuesday at Wilton High School to stay alive in Pod F play. Post 1 ran away from Wilton 13-2 in the first game between the teams on Saturday. Wilton eliminated Stratford 4-0 on Sunday in the other Pod F game.

Cheshire is 2-0 and awaits the winner of the Waterbury-Wilton game on Wednesday at a time to be determined.

Bristol Juniors

The Bristol Post 2 Junior Legion team is scheduled to host Windsor today at 4:30 p.m. at Riley Field in the first game of Pod A play in the 17U Northern Division “Regional Tournament”. That’s weather permitting of course, and there’s an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms for Bristol, according to The Weather Channel’s website.

Bristol is the Zone 1-7 regular season champion after compiling a 20-4 record (21-5 overall). They are the top seed in Pod A and Windsor (Zone 8) is the No. 4 seed.

Wolcott Post 165 (9-15 Zone 5) also made the state tournament. Wolcott is in Pod E of the Southern Division of the “Regional Tournament”. They face Greenwich (second place Zone 4, 17-4) today at 5:30 p.m. at Greenwich High School, again weather permitting.”
