The Bristol Greeners improved to 5-2 on the season Wednesday with a 6-4 win over the Tribury Twisters in Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League action at Bristol Central High School.
Bristol has won three straight games, a streak that started with a 3-1 victory over the Wolcott Scrappers on June 6. The Greeners also knocked off the defending champion Naugatuck Dogs 5-3 on June 10. Both of those wins were also at Bristol Central.
In the 6-4 win over Tribury, Bradley Burney pitched the first six innings and struck out nine. Burney gave up four runs in the sixth inning, three on a Tom Rinaldi double. Bristol pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out, two-run double by Jaeden Rasmus to go ahead 6-4. Jerry LaPenta had a triple, two singles and an RBI while Josh Dubrovsky added two hits and an RBI. Rasmus shad two hits and two RBI.
LaPenta threw 153 pitches in a 5-3 complete-game win over Naugatuck on June 10. He gave up two earned runs and struck out eight. LaPenta, Rasmus, A.J. Lorenzetti, Ben Mazzone and Zach Bartolome all had big hits for Bristol.
Burney was the winner pitcher in the 3-1 victory over Wolcott on June 6. He threw a complete game and allowed a single unearned run on three hits to go along with seven strikeouts. Burney’s two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning gave Bristol a 2-0 lead. In the fifth, Burney started a double play with a diving catch on a bunt attempt.
The Greeners face the Bethlehem Plowboys on Saturday at noon at Gallop Field.
