No Nyzair Rountree, no problem for the Holy Cross boys basketball team on Friday night.
Rountree rolled an ankle in Wednesday night’s home loss to Bassick. On Friday at Kennedy High School, Rountree was in street clothes but boisterously encouraging his teammates from the bench.
The Crusaders ran off to a quick lead, and after the Eagles closed to within 25-18 after one quarter, the game went completely in favor of the road team. Holy Cross outscored Kennedy 22-9 in the second quarter and rolled to a 95-60 victory.
DeAndre Wallace was a monster under the basket and led the Crusaders with 20 points. Wallace punctuated a fast break he started with a steal by throwing down a one-handed flush.
Mikey West scored 18 points and Jack Greene added 12. Gaeley Etienne and Akili Evans had big nights off the bench with 15 and 13 points respectively.
Holy Cross used its halfcourt trap to turn turnovers into quick points on the other end, and the Crusaders rolled on to a 12-2 record.
