No. 4 Bristol Central boys basketball outlasted No. 5 Enfield 74-69 in a CCC quarterfinal round game on Saturday at Hartford’s Bulkeley High School.
The Rams’ prize for outlasting the Eagles? Another team of Eagles, but this one is top-ranked (state) and top-seeded (CCC) East Catholic. The Eagles defeated No. 8 Glastonbury 75-61 in the final quarterfinal of the night. That semifinal is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Bulkeley.
Jaekwon Spencer once again led Central in scoring, this time with 27 points, but he also had plenty of help. Alex Bernier had 18 big points, Noah Plantamuro tallied 11, and Dathan Hickey and Isaiah Miller chipped in seven each. Plantamuro had two big free throws to extend the Ram lead to 73-69 with 23 seconds left to play. Central had been up by nine points, 62-53, with 4:59 left in the game. Enfield rallied, but the Rams held on and punched their ticket to the CCC semifinals. The other semifinal is at 7 p.m. and matches up No. 2 Windsor and No. 3 Simsbury.
