Heron (Auburn athletics) |
Strong efforts against two ranked teams earned Auburn sophomore Mustapha Heron SEC Player of the Week honors.
The former Sacred Heart star averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in wins over No. 23 Tennessee and No. 22 Arkansas, according to the SEC press release. He was a part of history, as these were the first back-to-back wins over ranked opponents for the Tigers since 1958. The victories also upped Auburn’s win streak to 12, the longest since the 1999-2000 season. That team went 24-10 and reached the SEC Championship Game.
The current Auburn squad is 14-1, and Heron is a big reason why. He had 16 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist in the victory at Tennessee. Against Arkansas, Heron went for 17 points and six rebounds.
Heron has played in 14 of Auburn’s 15 games and made 14 starts. He is averaging a team-leading 15.9 points per game and is fourth in rebounding at 5.6 per outing.
