Recent Holy Cross graduate Sarah Lawton has been ready to go for the CT Charmers 18U Gold travel softball team, and she was really needed this week.
Lawton threw 33.2 — you read that right, 33.2 — innings due to injuries to other Charmer pitchers. The 33.2 innings came in six games over a two-day span during the Team NJ Summer Classic in Edison. Lawton pitched in three different games Thursday, then did the same on Friday.
She threw six or more innings four times, including a high of 8.2. Lawton was a workhorse when the Charmers needed her, and that earned praise from head coach Neil Swanchak.
“Hats off to Sarah Lawton pitching 33 innings due to injuries,” Swanchak tweeted. “Win over Washington Lady Hawks from West Coast was masterful.”
Lawton threw all seven innings in that game and gave up a single unearned run on six hits. She threw 63 of 83 pitches for strikes.
Lawton heads to Florida Southwestern State, which has a strong Division I National Junior College Athletic Association team, this fall.
