Area boys basketball teams found out their CIAC state tournament seeds on Wednesday.
The best seed is of course Sacred Heart, No. 1 in Class L. Here are the seeds, from the top to the bottom:
SACRED HEART — No. 1 in Class L
The Hearts earned their top ranking thanks to another undefeated regular season. First up for the three-time defending state champions is No. 32 Joel Barlow (7-13) of the South-West Conference. The game will tip next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
HOLY CROSS — No. 4 in Class M
The Crusaders parlayed a 16-4 regular season into a good seed. Holy Cross opens play next Monday at 7 p.m. against No. 29 Killingly (7-13) of the Eastern Connecticut Conference.
ST. PAUL — No. 8 in Class S
The Falcons were 15-5 in the regular season and earned a first round home game. St. Paul opens the tournament against No. 25 Terryville (10-10) of the Berkshire League. The game will tip next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
KENNEDY — No. 8 in Class LL
The Eagles went 16-4 in the regular season and also earned a first round home game. Kennedy will play No. 25 Cheshire (10-10) of the Southern Connecticut Conference next Monday at 7 p.m. This game is a rematch of last year’s 9-24 game in Class LL, won by the No. 9 Eagles.
CROSBY — No. 14 in Class LL
A 13-7 regular season was enough to secure a first round home game for the Bulldogs. Crosby begins play in the friendly confines of The Palace against No. 19 Hartford Public (11-9). The game will be played next Monday at 7 p.m.
WATERBURY CAREER ACADEMY — No. 23 in Class S
The Spartans couldn’t turn enough close games into wins and finished the regular season 10-10. WCA begins tournament play on the road against No. 10 Windsor Locks (13-7) of the North Central Connecticut Conference. The game is next
BRISTOL CENTRAL — No. 24 in Class L
The Rams will open state tournament play on the road after going 10-10 in the regular season. Bristol Central goes to No. 9 Windsor (14-6) of the CCC next Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest. The teams did not meet in the regular season.
WILBY — No. 32 in Class LL
The Wildcats went 8-12 in the regular season and drew one of the best teams in the entire state for their first round game.
Wilby will be playing top-seeded Notre Dame-West Haven, led by Georgetown commit Tremont Waters. The Green Knights went 20-0 in the regular season.
