WOLCOTT’S WEEKLY ROUNDUP #4: Eagle girls split two games, one win away from state tourney

The Wolcott girls basketball team split its pair of games over the past week, leaving the Eagles one win shy of a state tournament berth.
Wolcott (7-5) began the week with a disappointing home loss to Naugatuck by the score of 43-35. Raven Cody led the Eagles with 17 points.
Wolcott bounced back with a 43-34 road win over Crosby on Friday night. In that game, Cody poured in 21 points while Megan Doubleday added 12.
The Eagles go to Woodland on Tuesday, then host St. Paul on Friday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The roller-coaster ride of a season continues for the Wolcott boys.
The Eagles started 0-5, then ripped off three straight wins. Wolcott went 0-2 over the past week, losing 56-47 at Naugatuck and 82-55 at home to Crosby. Wolcott is 3-7 and needs to win half of its remaining games to qualify for state tournament play.
Mike Tessarzik led the Eagles in the Naugy loss with 14 points. Pat Drewry scored 10 points for the second time in a week to lead Wolcott in the Crosby defeat.
The Eagles are home against Woodland Tuesday, then on the road at St. Paul Friday.
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Wolcott competed in the 35th Yale Interscholastic Track and Field Classic over the weekend.
The best finish in a final went to Jonathan Maldonado, who was 22nd in the 800 meters.
