GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Kennedy, Bristol Eastern start Class L at home

The state tournament pairings were released by the CIAC this morning, and here’s where the locals stand in girls volleyball. Match times, and even locations, are subject to change.

Kennedy (15-5)
Class L
No. 7 seed
The Eagles had an awesome regular season and qualified for the NVL Tournament. Kennedy will host No. 26 Maloney (8-12) Monday at 6 p.m. The winner plays either No. 10 Bunnell of Stratford (14-6) or No. 23 Crosby (9-11) on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the higher seed.

Bristol Eastern (13-5)
Class L
No. 8 seed
The Lancers, to no one’s surprise around here, will again open state tournament play at home. Eastern will host No. 25 Lauralton Hall of Milford on Monday at 6 p.m. The Lancers won their first round CCC match before falling to Class L top seed Farmington (18-0). The Eastern-Lauralton winner would play either No. 9 Naugatuck (14-6) or No. 24 Ledyard (8-12) in the second round Thursday at 6 p.m. at the higher seed. Farmington likely awaits that winner in the quarterfinal.

Holy Cross (13-7)
Class S
No. 14 seed
The Crusaders reached the semifinal round of the NVL Tournament. Cross earned a home match in Class S and will face No. 19 Whitney Tech of Hamden (11-9) on Monday at 6 p.m. inside The Pit. The winner goes to Moodus on Wednesday to play No. 3 Hale Ray (17-3, bye) at 6 p.m.

Crosby (9-11)
Class L
No. 23 seed
As mentioned previously, Crosby faces Bunnell in a Bulldog battle on Monday at 6 p.m. in Stratford. Winner gets Kennedy or Maloney on Thursday at the higher seed.

Wolcott (8-10)
Class M
No. 23 seed
The Eagles open up on the road on Monday at No. 10 Suffield (13-6) at 6 p.m. The winner plays either No. 7 Granby (16-4) or No. 26 New Fairfield (8-11) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the higher seed.
