TRACK AND FIELD STATE OPEN: Bristol Eastern’s Gianna D’Amato takes second in javelin

Bristol Eastern senior Gianna D’Amato put together another good performance at Monday’s CIAC State Open track and field meet at Willowbrook Park in New Britain.
D’Amato bested her javelin throw of last week for a toss of 132 feet, 8 inches. D’Amato’s Class L-winning toss went 125-02.
Her throw Monday was good for second place in the state. Only Shepaug Valley senior Samantha Moravsky was better (141-10). Moravsky had a tremendous day with four throws of 138 feet or more out of six total. The 132-08 from D’Amato was by far her best effort of the day.
Bristol Central senior Jevon Smith also had a strong effort. Smith took third place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.03 seconds.
Senior teammate Tyshaun Rodriguez tied for seventh in the pole vault. His best effort was 13 feet.
Kaynor Tech junior Jordon Wilkins also competed in the 110 hurdles. Wilkins made the final heat, then finished seventh out of eight competitors with a time of 15.60.
