Three years ago, Bristol Central senior Matt Blandino and Wolcott senior Manny Cruz were taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the MLB first-year player draft.
Both decided to continue their baseball careers in college. Blandino started out at Central Connecticut State, then made his way to Felician University in New Jersey, where he had an outstanding junior season for the Division II school. Cruz has been at Southern New Hampshire University since the beginning of his college career, and he had a solid junior season as well.
Today, both were again drafted by the Reds. Blandino was taken in the 19th round with the 558th pick. Four rounds later, Cruz was chosen with the 678th pick.
