St. Paul junior Natasha Kempes claimed the NVL singles tournament championship on Thursday at Woodland Regional High School.
Kempes first beat teammate Victoria Kilbourne 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals, then dispatched Woodland’s Ally Mayne in the final, 6-1, 6-1. Those were the scores reported by the Waterbury Republican-American on their website The Zone.
Kempes made the All-NVL team, along with Kilbourne.
In doubles, Sacred Heart’s Brianna Montambault and Heather Brown were knocked out in the semifinal round.

Watertown 11, St. Paul 6
The Falcons appeared in the Western Connecticut Lacrosse Conference final for the first time on Thursday afternoon, but the Indians came away with the victory and the title.
It has still been a very successful season for St. Paul, which saw its overall record drop to 11-7. The Falcons are the No. 10 seed in Class S and will play at No. 7 North Branford (12-4 regular season) next Wednesday in a first round matchup at 4:30 p.m.
