Former two-time, all-state first baseman Gabrielle Gallucci had her first game as head coach of the Wolcott softball team on Tuesday against Kennedy at home.
Wolcott erupted for 11 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 31-0 win in five innings over Kennedy. Gallucci, who made the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Class M all-state team in 2011 and 2012, was appointed as head coach of Wolcott on March 16. Former coach Lisa Novakowski’s resignation was accepted by the Board of Education at its Feb. 11 meeting. Novakowski and Shelby Slie-Lorusso are volunteers with the team this season.
As for the game itself, Wolcott’s Jade Abdul-Lateef homered and drove in five runs. Kayla Nuelan went 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and five RBI. Kaitlyn Ouellette struck out nine and allowed one hit in five innings to pick up the win.
