The official start date of the 2018 high school fall sports season was a quiet one in the area.
Most games scheduled for Thursday were postponed due to the weather. If the excessive heat early in the day didn’t postpone a game, the thunderstorms that came in the late afternoon and early evening did the trick.
Wolcott was able to play a pair of soccer matches against Torrington. The Eagle girls soccer team took out the Lady Raiders 5-0 on the turf of Joe Monroe Field. The Wolcott boys traveled up Route 8 to Torrington but returned home with a 3-2 defeat.
In the Wolcott girls victory, Tiona Watts and Brooke Tracey scored two goals each while Ella Vaughn added a goal and an assist. For the Eagle boys, Nate Goddard and Christopher LeBeau scored goals.
