Former Woodland football standout Shane Kingsley helped Ansonia capture its 22nd state championship on Saturday in a 58-12 rout of Bloomfield at East Hartford’s Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
The Chargers held the Warhawks to 170 total yards of offense in the Class S state championship, which was the eighth meeting for a title between the two storied programs. Ansonia holds a 5-3 edge in state championship games and 5-4 overall in playoff meetings. Kingsley has been on head coach Tom Brockett’s staff since the 2015 season.
At Woodland, Kingsley played on the 2004 and 2005 state championship teams. Shane’s younger brother Tanner, the new head coach at Anna Maria College in Massachusetts, was in attendance at Saturday’s game, along with retired head coach Steve Croce. Croce coached at Holy Cross High.
Ferrazzi leads Sheehan to another final
Kennedy alum John Ferrazzi coached the Titans into another state championship game, this time the Class SS final against Killingly. Sheehan lost, 48-33, on Friday night at Rentschler Field.
Ferrazzi led the Titans to the 2019 Class S state championship and was the Connecticut High School Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year that season. He just completed his 19th season as head coach of Sheehan. His record is 109-93-2.
Ferrazzi had Wolcott Class of 2020 graduate Robert Rubbo on his staff as an assistant.
