The Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer claimed the Little East Conference regular season title Saturday, and a former Holy Cross High standout was in the middle of the action.
The Wolves won, 2-1, over UMass-Boston at home and improved to an impressive 17-0-1, including 7-0-1 in LEC play. Sophomore Kadin Talho scored in the 23rd minute on a graceful heel kick goal, according to the report on the team’s website. He scored on an assist from the top of the box by junior Kent Eannarino of Brookfield. Talho had five shots, including three on goal. The goal was his fifth of the season and tied him for third on the team. Two of Talho’s goals were classified as game-winners. He also has three assists on the season.
Talho has played in and started all 18 games for WCSU, one of four players to do so. Another who has played in and started all 18 is sophomore Filipe Dutra of Naugatuck. Talho saved WCSU’s unbeaten season on Oct. 11 when he scored with less than four minutes remaining as the Wolves salvaged a 1-1 draw against Drew University in Madison, N.J. When WCSU beat Lehman College, 1-0, on Sept. 22 at home, it was Talho who tallied the lone goal. The Wolves have two regular season games left, both on the road, against Pratt Institute and the University of Southern Maine.
WCSU will have a first round bye in the LEC tournament, as will UMass-Boston (9-4-3, 6-1 LEC). The Wolves will host a semifinal on Nov. 3.
Note: Talho’s Holy Cross teammate and fellow sophomore Luke Zipoli in on the WCSU roster. He has played in five games this season.
