Former Wolcott baseball standout Jeff Nicol led the way in a big way for Central Connecticut State University in a 16-12 home win over Fairfield University on Wednesday afternoon.
Nicol blasted two home runs and went 3-for-4 overall with a walk, three runs scored and five RBI. The Blue Devils hammered away for five homers against Stag pitching.
Nicol’s first homer of the day capped a five-run bottom of the first inning. He added a second solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 9-7 lead.
Nicol’s biggest hit of the day didn’t leave the yard. His two-run single in the sixth inning gave the Blue Devils an 11-8 cushion.
CCSU entertains Norfolk State at home in a three-game series beginning with a Friday doubleheader.
